nature’s litter
As I was jogging along some wintery woods, I remembered a line from Steinbeck, the same line I used when I first created this site, in late 2024:
“The trash and litter of nature disappears into the ground with the passing of each year, but man’s litter has more permanence.”
Course woody debris.
Nature’s litter is life-giving. Across seasons, throughout time, fallen trees provide pockets of space for many critters. They protect new seedlings as they root. Through a slow process, woody debris breaks down. Their decomposition returns back to the earth as particles in the form of bacteria and fungi thereby creating more nutrient rich soil (not pollution). With this, and more, the life-cycle continues. Hail to nature’s litter!
