the poudre

The Cache la Poudre River is the only nationally designated Wild and Scenic River in Colorado. The river begins as snow high in the Rocky Mountains and flows approximately 125 miles downward, an elevation of 7,000 feet.

I obLITTERated along the waters of the Poudre near Fort Collins, where it passes before joining the South Platte River. The area is frequented with bikers, hikers, walkers, runners, fishers, and barkers - I even met a meower with their human.

On this journey, I walked less than 2 miles and collected less than a pound of litter. Some contributing factors that help keep litter at bay may be that the nature area is patrolled and, during my short walk, I came across two trash cans. Where locals take pride and visitors respect, hopefully there will be less littering.

In the weeks to come, I plan to learn more about this magnificent river and experience the biodiversity hosted here.
