running 365
I recently reached my 1-mile-a-day running streak - running every day no-matter-what (3/31/25 thru 3/31/26). I’ve decided to keep the streak going until the day comes for it to end. Rather than seeking perfection, I’ll happily pick it back up and begin again.
In relation to obLITTERate, there were some posts I shared about “plogging” (picking up litter as you jog), here and here. Aside from plogging, my daily jog inspired me to pick up another habit (pun intended). Beginning April 1, 2026, I’m picking up 1 piece of litter a day, no-matter-what. This is in addition to the greater work of obLITTERate; I’ll continue the work of collecting litter in bulk as well.
Years ago I read Atomic Habits by James Clear, a motivating book that helped me see how tiny changes compound over time. Imagine if we made it a habit to pick up one piece of litter a day for a year and multiplied that by the estimated population of Americans aged 5 and up (≈ 328,687,000). In a year, that would be approximately 1.2 billion items of litter! (Population references: WorldOMeter and Demographics of the U.S.)
And so it begins…
