yellowwood 2
same path, different day…
After a few weeks away, I was happy to return to my “neck of the woods” again. I hadn’t visited Yellowwood since my last ObLITTERate adventure. So, when I decided to take my daily mile jog the other day, I wondered how much litter I would see along the same route, nearly a month later.
On 6/13/2025, I had collected 2.58 pounds covering a 1 mile walk. This time, I collected 2.0. Mostly beverage containers – aluminum, glass, and plastics. I even dumped out any liquids, including one can that seemed to hold someone’s disposed spit tobacco (no, I didn’t put that in recycling).
My main takeaway – besides the proper disposal of trash – was reflecting on these endless efforts in connection to a quote I recently read:
“The good thing about everything being so fucked up is that no matter where you look, there is great work to be done.”
My hope and intention is to set an example of what we can do, even individually. My hope and intention is to encourage others… and, along the way, stay motivated too.
