wild & precious
… the final days of summer
In late September, as I reflect on my life, work, and the days ahead, I am reminded of The Summer Day, a poem by Mary Oliver.
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
To write, share, and tend to nature, this is what I want to do with my “one wild and precious life.”
I pledge my life and service - body, breath, mind, and spirit - caring for the-more-than-human-world. Not artificial intelligence but neglected intelligence; the intelligence of the natural world that sustains us.
I’m excited for the Autumn 2026 Pledge Drive happening this week (9/23/2026). Those who generously donate a dollar or more support my work in writing, educating, and obLITTERating!
Serendipitously, a grasshopper actually did rest in my hand (except I had no sugar).
“Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean—
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,…”
